First of all, we want to thank you for your willingness to be a part of Cartoneo Y Nopalitos in such an important and delicious way!

In this New Year & new project, we are also dedicating ourselves to this new cause: protecting our environment. Please join us as we embark in this new and exciting venture as we switch to a “Go Green” mentality.

A few ways we can do this is by:

Reusing containers for transportation of food and beverages.
If buying new appliances and supplies for food service, look for the recycle symbol on packaging.
Using less gas - By making a list of needed supplies, you are saving yourself time, gas & tons of energy in making a on stop shopping trip. And hey! While you’re at it, bring the finished list to set & throw it in our “paper” recycling bin.

We figured that in having a different caterer help us each day, it might be nice for you guys to have a one stop place to find information on local and organic farmers. The Red is Green

As an attestation of our "green status", we would like to present:

The Red!

It is a switch in production for CineVeliz which is cost effective & eco-friendly.

Here's the down-low.

Film celluloid does not record audio and one needs a separate recording device. Focus is very complex and there is an additional person that operates that side of the camera.

Digital filming devices, aka The Red, can record both image and sound.

Film needs to be developed, it can’t be seen immediately and reels need to be changed often in a highly difficult process involving unloading and reloading in the dark, with out the use of visual sight.

Digitally, we are able to remove the data card and view progress on a computer; cutting out what isn't useful and keeping what is.

There's our cost effectiveness!

There are pretty harmful chemicals involved in processing the film, once the footage is taken. In digital we are able to use "cards". They are able to be input, removed & erased; therefore re-use is the keyword here.

The Red providesmore than 5 times the amount of information available every second and a vastly superior recording quality than. In addition, you get the same breathtaking Depth of Field and selective focus as found in film cameras using equivalent lenses.

And the reason why we're using it in the first place :)

Pre-Production Vol II

One of the ways we have decided we want to make a difference with this project is supporting our local farmer's market and organic growers. What better way to go green than by supplying our caterers with all natural, all local ingredients?

But here's the DL:

We've been emailing back and forth with a few local farmers/organic growers in the San Antonio area this past week and it seems this project won't be as cost-friendly as we were hoping. A minor disappointment. Not at all anything we can't work around though! We are so commited to this endeavor and with so much built up passion behind it all refuse to let a little speed bump like this get in the way now.

Plans have been arranged to meet a little later this week to brainstorm and come up a few cost {and eco!} friendly alternatives. So be sure to stayed tuned and see what Olli and the Ash have up they're sleeves next!

We're sittin' at Panera, thinking about what we want you guys to know.

First of all, we're so excited about CineVeliz going green. It's the perfect time, seeing as how Cartoneo Y Nopalitos is centered on an immigrant's tale of survival by his unwittingly recycling cardboard out of necessity.

Olli's heart for this project stemmed from a viewing of another green Hollywood film "Away We Go". Without the script for CYN even being finished, she ventured out in making CineVeliz eco-friendly, local and sustainable.

Ashley jumped on, knowing a great opportunity and vision when she saw it. We've been working around the clock to bring in the most organic materials available in San Antonio.

So here it goes!!! Please stay tuned for all of our adventures in eco-friendly film making. We've got tons to show and share.
